Questions & Answers: City of Toronto
Brownfields  The City of Toronto won the 2010 FCM Sustainable Community Award in the brownfields category for its Adaptive Reuse of the Industrial Heritage Wychwood Car Barns project. With support from FCM’s Green Municipal Fund, the project made it the first designated heritage site in Canada to achieve LEED® Gold certification for redevelopment.
FCM spoke via e-mail with Lori Martin, senior cultural affairs officer with the City of Toronto’s culture division, to find out more about this excellent project.

FCM hits the road for two brownfield events
We recently had an opportunity to highlight our exciting updates to the GMF funding offer at two national brownfield conferences.

The Remediation Technologies conference in Alberta provided an excellent opportunity to connect with leading technology providers and remediation experts, all of whom can access GMF’s brownfield funding through partnerships with municipalities.

FCM also had a strong presence at this year’s Canadian Brownfields conference in Toronto, held November 1 to 3. The annual event attracts a diverse audience and is Canada’s only national brownfields conference.

FCM wins Brownie Award
Brownfields  FCM, along with its partners — the Government of British Columbia, OCETA and CPPI — was honoured to receive a 2010 Brownie Award in communications, marketing and public engagement for its workshop series, Building B.C. Local Government Capacity for Brownfield Redevelopment.
This series of four one-day workshops brought together experts in brownfield technologies, legislation, funding and capacity building; introduced a new provincial Brownfield Roadmap tool; and strengthened relationships between the program partners and B.C. municipalities.
